Today we depend on computers to manage financial transactions and armoured cars to transport cash. But in the early days of the bank, these were the responsibility of the messenger – often the youngest and lowest-paid employee at a branch. He was charged with conveying money and important documents between the bank and its customers, and making sure those transactions were entered by the clerk.
